We decided to follow the same strategy when it came to the general set up by using fairy lights to create a stage and surrounding it with big potted plants to showcase a minimalistic and tranquil scenery.
The Artists Of Sofar Sounds Round 2
This time round we had a smaller intimate crowd, so we brought in a couple of the sofas to make it more comfortable, two large tables with bar stools near the back and of course, we dotted around plush cushions on the floor of the space. With the atmosphere buzzing, we kept the drinks flowing and energy high as we wanted to keep the audience on their toes for our secret line-up.
We surprised guests with three incredible artists who lifted spirits throughout the night. First to perform was musician Sully Gravity who provided a selection of classic tracks from his discography. With his musical journey starting with writing songs at the age of 12, he studied classical music whilst gaining extended knowledge within gospel and performance every Saturday in church. The Contemporary Music Performance graduate fuses elements of soul, afrobeats, R&B and gospel within his music and delivered a serene energy to kick off the evening.
Following Sully Gravity was spoken word artist, X4 International Slam Champ and founder of Poetry Prescribed Miss Yankey. As she gracefully took to the stage, she gave us an emotional performance of spoken word and read from a trailing scroll to continue the relaxed atmosphere that we were lounging in. Miss Yankey is a British-Ghanian writer, activist and spoken word artist who has traveled around the world sharing her powerful voice. The accomplished poet crafts her art with passion and uses her advocacy for women’s rights, mental health and domestic violence awareness to spread a message to the masses. Miss Yankey also recently made her television debut on the BAFTA Award winning Life & Rhymes.
To close the show after some powerful performances were folk band The Ha’Pennies that provided a kazoo-enthused show and brought up the atmosphere to finish on an energetic end. Providing music that contains a mixture of rock, pop and a blues undertone, The Ha’Pennies are a group that give off an exciting energy wherever they play. Influenced by US rock band Kings Of Leon and The Kinks, the collective put smiles on the faces of their audience every time.
With this Sofar Sounds Event being a huge success and seeing everyone’s faces lit up towards the end of the evening, we are able to announce that we will be again turning Sugar Studios into a live music venue and hosting yet another Sofar Sounds on the 9th of September, with the final line-up yet to be confirmed.
Keep your eyes peeled and follow Sully Gravity, Miss Yankey and The Ha’Pennies on social media to stay up to date with their next move.
